Built to last: what graphene brings to rubber products

Graphene can help tires, belts, seals and hoses last longer and perform better, often at very low additions.

Rubber products work hard. Tires flex with every turn of the wheel, conveyor belts carry heavy loads through dust and heat, and seals must hold their shape against pressure and chemicals. When rubber wears out, the cost shows up in downtime, replacements and waste. Graphene gives compounders a new way to push rubber performance further.

Resisting wear and tear

Graphene reinforces the rubber network, helping it resist abrasion, cutting and tearing. In tires, belts and shoe soles, that can mean a longer service life. In industrial settings, fewer replacements also mean less downtime.

Keeping cooler under load

Rubber that flexes again and again generates heat, and heat speeds up aging. Graphene conducts heat very well, so it helps carry that heat away. That can slow the breakdown of parts that run hot, such as tires and drive belts.

Tighter seals and better barriers

The flat shape of graphene flakes makes it harder for gases and liquids to pass through rubber. That is useful for seals, gaskets, hoses and liners that must hold pressure or keep fluids in.

Static control

Rubber normally insulates, so static can build up on belts, rollers and flooring. A small amount of graphene can make rubber conductive enough to release that charge safely, which matters in electronics, mining and fuel handling.

Balancing performance with processing

Traditional rubber compounds rely on large amounts of carbon black or silica for reinforcement. Graphene can work alongside these fillers at much lower additions, but only if it is dispersed well and the formulation is adjusted to suit. Getting that balance right takes testing in the actual compound and process.

How Quantanext helps

Quantanext works with rubber compounders and product makers to assess where graphene can make a difference, select and test the right material for their compound, and scale it into full production with consistent results.
